In October 2023, Animal Crossing will once again celebrate Halloween for the entire month. Today the event is finally taking place and since you only have a few hours, you can complete the event perfectly with our tips.

Animal Crossing celebrates Halloween again in 2023
If you started Animal Crossing on October 1st, you can prepare for Halloween in the game – the actual event doesn’t start until October 31st.

How the Halloween event works on October 31st
Halloween will take place on your island on October 31st. To make sure you don’t miss it, Melinda will also announce it again on the island.
When does it start? Halloween doesn’t start until the evening, so the activities run from 5 p.m. to midnight. Once November 1st arrives, the event ends and you have to wait another year to get candies, lollipops, DIY recipes and the other stuff. There is a lot to collect during the event.
Talk to Jacob: To start the event, you will find Halloween Prince Jacob from 5 p.m. All evening long, your costumed residents will run towards you and shout trick or treat. They want candy or lollipops from you, the former you can have ready if you have collected enough in advance.
Receive candies and lollipops
Getting candy on Halloween: On October 31st, from 5 p.m., you can collect even more candies than usual:
- If you don’t have any candy in your inventory, a resident who wants to “trick or treat” will give you three as a gift (one-time only).
- Wear the Jacob mask and the Jacob robe and you will receive a candy (once per resident).
- When residents are in their houses and you put on a Halloween costume, you get a candy (can be repeated every five minutes per resident).
How to get lollipops: If you give residents a candy, there is a chance of receiving a lollipop instead of an item. The chances reset every time you receive a lollipop:

Trick or Treat with Residents: The animal friends rush towards you with an exclamation mark and want something sweet. If you give them a piece of candy, you will receive a certain item or a lollipop depending on your progress. These are the rewards for each level:

You only level up once you have received all the rewards and you don’t get duplicate items until level 7. You can split the progress between all your neighbors and don’t have to give the candy to just one resident to level up.
Get new emotions: If you don’t have the Halloween emotions “Frighten” and “Shock” yet, you will get them again in 2023. If you give a candy to a resident or Jacob for the first time, you will get “Frighten” or “Shock” respectively.
This is the emotion “shock”.
Exclusive face painting through pranks: If you have a piece of candy with you but decide not to give it away, your residents will play a prank on you as punishment. This will randomly change your skin and eye color. You will also receive one of four exclusive face paints. You can only get these on Halloween and they are one-time only. Once you take them off, you will not get them back after the event. To take them off, you can either select them from the mirror or from your clothing in the bag menu.

Visit Nook’s shop daily: If you don’t really want the instructions, you can just go to Nook’s shop and buy the items there. Every day, a random piece of furniture from the Halloween series is available for purchase. When you buy it, you only get the item once and not the instructions to make it yourself.
Stock up on candy
From October 1st you can collect candies. With these you can get many of the special items on Halloween. If you collect them now, you will have to grind less on Halloween. It is recommended that you collect them by the end of the month. about 25 candies in your inventory to receive all event rewards.
Nook’s Shop: You can buy a piece of candy from Nepp and Schlepp for 120 bells each. Due to the high demand in October, they only sell one piece of candy per day. But there are other ways to get around this besides time travel. Simply travel to one of your friends’ islands, because there you can also buy one piece of candy per island.
Received from residents: Your animal island friends work on a DIY recipe in their houses several times a day. In October they like to work on pumpkin items. If you already have the recipe, there is a 30 percent chance that they will give you a candy. The rest of the time they will give you five orange pumpkins.
Since you get enough candy on Halloween itself, you should have enough at the end even if you collect very few or none at all throughout the month. However, if you start now, you can finish the Halloween event faster on October 31st.

To avoid celebrating Halloween without a costume, you should visit the tailor sisters every day. They have a changing range of clothing and there is often one of the coveted costumes available for the event.
